The focus of this course is on speaking and understanding useful Tagalog/Pilipino. The audio programs use Pilipino, Tagalog, and Filipino interchangeably.

The course is divided into five units covering the following topics: getting to know you, getting around, at the restaurant, shopping, and getting help.

Each unit is divided into two to three lessons. The learning activities for most units are: conversations, notes on the conversations, exercises, and a self-evaluation quiz. The cultural notes include information on: geography, climate, history, food and restaurants, sightseeing, shopping, and currency.

The course was originally designed by the world famous Defense Language Institute with the aim of providing students with practical skills in the shortest possible time. Emphasis was placed on conversational skills that the student will encounter.

The course is available in three formats. A downloadable format includes a pdf and audio MP3 download of the course. A CD-ROM version is also available which includes a PDF and audio MP3 on CD-ROM for access on any PC or MAC. The course is also available in a printed book format with an MP3 CD.
